The Snow King Resort & Spa in Colorado Springs is going to be the first resort in the U.S. to open in 2019, with a $250 million expansion.
The resort will open next year on the same site that is currently the site of the Snow King, and will have a total of three resorts.
The new site is expected to open before the end of 2019, according to a release from the resort.
The SnowKing will be the largest resort in Colorado, and the second-largest in the country, with nearly 2,300 rooms and 2,500 rooms onsite.
Snow King CEO John Sorensen told The Associated Press that the resort’s expansion will make the resort a top destination for skiing and snowboarding.
The resort’s total occupancy rate is expected be 70 percent, he said.
The facility also has plans to create up to 150 jobs and provide more than 4,200 square feet of retail space, Sorenesen said.
SnowKing will offer a number of activities including snowboarding, snowshoeing, snowboarding instruction and more.
The ski area will also host events that include ice skating, tubing and BMX, Sorenson said.
The Snow King is located on land owned by the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Department, which owns the property from the late 1800s through the early 1900s.
The ski resort was founded in 1912 by the late John A. “Jack” Snow, who also owned a ski resort in nearby Littleton.
Snow King’s namesake resort has hosted ski jumpers, skiers and skiers-in-training since it opened in 1921.
The former hotel has since been converted into a shopping mall, and is now home to a number other retailers.
