A cruise ship that left New Zealand last year had a strange way of making its way to its final resting place.
The ship’s captain said the ship was in port when he was told to wait outside for the next ferry, but that was the last time he saw his ship until a few days later.
“The ship was just sitting there waiting for another ferry and then there was another ferry,” Captain Stephen Tuckley told the New Zealand Herald.
“It was just like a dream come true.”
The boat was on its way from the port to Port Augusta in New Zealand when the captain was told it had to wait at a beach for the ferry to come to the port.
Tuckley said the captain took his ship on a two-hour drive to the beach and then waited for the other ferry to arrive.
“I thought it was a joke,” he said.
“He said, ‘Well you’ve been waiting for this ferry to go for a while now and then you’re going to get it, so you better go get it and I’ll get you out.'”
“So I was just standing there thinking, ‘Oh God, I’ve got to get out, I’ll just wait out here and see if I can get out.'”‘
This is a curse island’A few weeks later, he had the ferry ready to go and was just waiting for the first ferry to leave.
“So the first boat came and they just sat there waiting, and I think the first one, I don’t know how old, about 40 or 50 feet away, started taking off, and he got on board, and they took off the boat,” Tuckleys father, Stephen Tucksley, said.
When the ferry left, he was relieved.
“Then I started thinking, if it’s not going to be here any more, I can’t take it with me,” he told the Herald.
The captain is in jail for the cruise, which was not recorded in the National Parks and Wildlife Service’s website, so the Herald was unable to find out what he did to make his way to the island.
It’s not the first time a ship has landed on a cursed Island.
In 2015, a cruise ship crashed in the Caribbean, killing the captain and seven passengers.
